Live Stream with South Jersey Forward: Protecting Wharton State Forest for Future Generations

Wharton State Forest, which spans Atlantic, Burlington, and Camden counties, is the largest forest in New Jersey. Ever year, hundreds of thousands of people come to Wharton to enjoy its pristine nature and appreciate its history. In November, the Department of Environmental Protection announced it would be closing more than half of the roads in Wharton, preventing scores of hikers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts from enjoying significant portions of New Jersey’s Pine Barrens. This action was done despite public opposition from thousands of environmentalists and nature enthusiasts. Eleven towns even passed resolutions in opposition to the DEP’s road map. Join us on Tuesday, January 7 for a virtual roundtable to learn more about the adverse effects the DEP’s actions will have on outdoor recreation and what you can do to help.
